The Ghost's Grave

Author: Peg Kehret

The characters that were included were Josh, Steven, Mom, Aunt Ethel, Willie, Mrs. Morris, and Mr. Turlep. Josh is the main character. Aunt Ethel is Josh’s aunt. Mom is Josh’s mom. Mom’s real name is never mentioned in the book. Steven is Josh’s brother. Willie is a ghost. He died in a coal mine explosion. Mr. Turlep is the bad guy in the book. Mrs. Morris helps take care of Aunt Ethel because she broke her ankle.

The setting was in Carbon City. Carbon City is a small town with wooden streets and a graveyard by Aunt Ethel’s house. Carbon City Market is also by Aunt Ethel’s house. The story takes place in the summer time.

The problem in the story is that Willie is not at peace because his legs were not buried with the rest of his body. Josh solves the problem by digging up Willie’s legs and attaching them to his body after many years had passed.

My favorite character is Josh. Josh is my favorite because he is very caring for animals and people. He does not like Aunt Ethel’s gun. Josh also likes to eat the cakes Aunt Ethel bakes for him.

My favorite part is at the very beginning when Aunt Ethel shoots the bat in the kitchen. I especially like when the blood splatters all over the kitchen. Josh cleans up the mess by himself. Josh thought the bullet was going to make a hole in the house, but to his surprise, it did not.
